Take control of machines with a torque limiter

Torque limiter

The torque limiter is a device of wide usage, which reduces the torque to a maximum threshold, usually set by the user.

For example, when you have a high pair, but the organs to which it should be sent or do you apply do not support this torque, you should use a system that allows a reduction of this force, in order to avoid damage to either of these elements.

In road transport by rail or a motor with high torque can submit car mechanics to overexertion that could compromise the reliability and, despite anti-skating, systems may still be difficult for the pilot to handle lots of boost.

To overcome these problems the torque limiters “bound” to lower the motor torque in low gears (usually 1°, 2° and 3° sometimes), so that the transmission is not subjected to excessive efforts and accelerate at low speed is less challenging and risky.

There are mainly two types of torque limiters in business:

– mechanically, it is generally characterized by a slip clutch begins to slip as it exceeds the threshold, this system is used in power tools and utensils (the typical example is the torque wrench);

– electronic, used in machine tools (screwdrivers) and appeared recently on some high-performance cars;
Both types can be selected according to the requirements of regulation: some may be adjusted manually (the user sets the maximum value to which to submit the work, usually this is the typical case of screwdrivers), while for others the hli operator cannot under any circumstances take on the management of maximum torque, which is set by the manufacturer and cannot be changed.

The torque limiter can be used to cope with a wide variety of situations: this mechanism is used not only in tools or power tools, where various screws can strip (the key insert will ruin becoming unusable), but also by car manufacturers such as Mercedes-AMG (the House that uses more these systems) or those of Brabus processing, moves by big compressor engines which in some cases touch 1,000 Nm.

A variant of this system, with application is the slipper clutch for motorcycle use on large-displacement sport bikes, where simply not the positive force (generated with the engine in full use), but the negative force (generated by the resistance offered by the engine compared to rpm), where in this case do you use to avoid mechanical stress but to improve drivability.
